Have you ever heard the expression 'you need to take the emotion out of it?" Whenua BEINGS does the opposite it evaluates why the emotion is there in the first place. Emotions should be considered part of whanau and whenua. Whenua BEINGS is about helping individuals create self and interpersonal awareness. The intertwined nature of Maori with land means their tends to be more intense emotions when trying to manage whenua. Additionally, long term inter generational family dynamics need to be considered. |

mamae is physical and emotional pain. Unallowed expression of mamae turns into feelings of helplessness and powerlessness. When a loss cannot be openly acknowledged, or publicly mourned - the grief becomes stuck. whakamā is the sense of feeling inferior, inadequate, diffident and with self-doubt. It represents a state in a person when they have felt dishonored in the eyes of others |
puhaehae Trust binds human connection. Those who lack trust have trouble engaging with others. Jealousy works against internal harmony, positive social functioning and prosperity. riri is anger, to quarrel, rage, wrath, or battle. Anger has always been a part of land struggles and existed historically. Anger causes divisiveness within whānau. |
Whanau and whenua relationships are sources of well-being for Maori developed by long term bonds with a particular piece of territory.
